London, July 27, 2025 — Britain is in the grip of an intense summer heatwave, with temperatures soaring well above 35°C across parts of England, marking one of the hottest weeks the UK has seen in recent years.

The Met Office has issued an amber extreme heat warning for much of southern and central England, with London, Oxford, and Cambridge reaching daytime highs between 35°C and 37°C. Wales and parts of Northern Ireland are also seeing unusually hot and humid conditions, pushing into the low 30s.

🌡️ Records Broken Across the UK

London (Heathrow): 37.2°C

Cambridge: 36.8°C

Manchester: 33.5°C

Cardiff: 32.9°C

Belfast: 30.1°C

This marks the third consecutive summer the UK has seen temperatures breach 35°C, raising continued concern over climate resilience and infrastructure.

🏥 Health Alerts and Transport Disruption

Hospitals are on high alert as A&E departments report a spike in heat-related illnesses such as dehydration, heatstroke, and asthma flare-ups.

Public Health England (PHE) is urging citizens to:

Stay indoors during peak heat (11am–3pm)

Keep hydrated

Check on vulnerable neighbours and family

Meanwhile, rail and tube services are experiencing delays due to overheated tracks and power fluctuations. Some schools in the Midlands and South East have shortened their hours or moved to remote learning for the week.

🔥 Fire Services on Standby

Fire brigades across Kent, Surrey, and Hampshire are responding to multiple grass and wildfires as dry conditions persist.

“We're urging the public to avoid outdoor barbecues and dispose of cigarettes safely,” said London Fire Brigade spokesperson Andrea Clarke.

🌍 Climate Experts Raise Alarm

Scientists point to the ongoing heatwave as another urgent signal of climate instability. Dr. Olivia Marks from the UK Centre for Climate Resilience warned:

“What we’re seeing isn’t just unusual — it’s becoming the new normal. Extreme heat events like this are arriving more frequently and lasting longer.”

☀️ Outlook

The heatwave is expected to peak on Monday and Tuesday, with a slight drop by midweek. However, forecasters warn that August could bring another wave of high-pressure heat.

Stay cool, stay safe, and stay informed.
