Reykjavík, Iceland — July 27, 2025 — The Mountain has returned — and he's stronger than ever.
Hafthor Júlíus Björnsson, the 2018 World’s Strongest Man and global icon best known for playing Ser Gregor “The Mountain” Clegane in Game of Thrones, made a stunning return to competitive strongman over the weekend, dominating the Iceland’s Strongest Viking 2025 competition and silencing any doubts about his comeback.
After a brief retirement to focus on boxing — including his high-profile victory over Eddie Hall in 2022 — Björnsson stormed back onto the strongman scene with massive lifts, explosive energy, and a laser-focused mindset.
💪 A Record-Breaking Comeback
Thor pulled an incredible 480kg (1,058 lbs) deadlift, setting a new Icelandic record and making it clear he’s eyeing the world stage once again.
He also conquered the Húsafell stone carry, holding the legendary 186kg (410 lb) stone for over 90 meters — beating his own personal best.
“I’m back — not just to compete, but to dominate,” Thor said after the final event. “I missed this energy, this pain, this power. Boxing was fun, but strongman is home.”
👑 The Road to World's Strongest Man 2026?
While he hasn’t confirmed it officially, insiders say Björnsson is already training with his sights on reclaiming the World’s Strongest Man title in 2026 — potentially setting up a dream showdown with reigning champ Tom Stoltman.
Thor’s performance in Reykjavík sends a loud and clear message: The Mountain still stands tall.
